Unlike high -quality masonry of brick chimneys that requires professional skills, the installation of stainless steel chimneys with your own hands is not an example of easier. This is especially noticeable in the example of coaxial chimneys from a sandwich tube, the basis of the installation of which is a consistent assembly of several steel knees, which are investing one into another. Nevertheless, a number of prerequisites will need to be observed at the same time – otherwise you can get a serious smoke of the house or a quick failure of the chimney system due to accumulation of condensate in pipes.
Nevertheless, about to pull the chimney from the steel pipe with your own hands, you should worry not only about the assembly process, but also about the correct choice of type and linear sizes of pipes for it. In this case, first of all, the technical parameters of the furnace or boiler are taken into account, as well as the purpose of the room in which it is installed (living room, cottage, bathhouse, etc. D.)
Ultimately, the correct selection of materials, such as steel pipes and correctly carried out installation should lead to the installation of a chimney with the following qualities:
the minimum level of settlement on the internal walls of soot and soot and the possibility of their light removal during preventive cleaning;
almost complete tightness, the consequence of which is the absence of leaks of carbon monoxide;
stable powerful thrust.
The advantages of steel chimneys
In this case, we will get an easily mounted and reliable chimney from a steel pipe, which also has a long list of other advantages, including:
full compliance with all requirements of fire safety standards;
solid operational period;
high mechanical strength;
high thermal resistance;
with proper assembly and sealing – the minimum level of accumulation on the walls of condensate (which is especially important for bath furnaces);
Ease of maintenance and repair regardless of the season;
small weight that reduces the load on the foundation;
Universality in terms of installation sites (residential premises, saunas, cottages, etc. D.);
The smoothness of the surface, which is the main obstacle to the deposition of soot and soot, as in brick chimneys.
By the set of positive characteristics, it makes sense to compare only with ceramic steel chimney, but the second is much more expensive and more whimsical.
Types of steel chimney
There are differences between the types of steel pipes used in the construction of chimneys. Depending on various operational needs, one of three possible options is selected.
The first of them consists in choosing a continuous single-walled pipe, mounted inside an existing brick or ceramic chimney in cases where the latter for some reason ceases to meet operational requirements, but it is difficult to repair or replace it. Such a pipe for a chimney with your own hands is easily installed in a chimney channel with one single prerequisite – configuration at the bottom with a specialized device for accumulating condensate.
The second option is more common, and is an independent double -walled steel chimney. The internal and outer pipes in it are separated by a layer of non -combustible heat -resistant heat insulator (usually basalt fiber), which avoids excessive overheating of the outer surface of the chimney. A similar type of pipes differs mainly by the thickness of the inner layer-fluctuating within 30-100 mm, depending on the types of roofs, installation sites, climatic conditions, humidity of the room, etc. D. The maximum layer of basalt wool is used in chimneys for a bathhouse, where heat losses are most critical.
Finally, the third option is a particular case of the previous one, but fundamentally different from it constructively, since it is coaxial and consisting of a pair of carriage pipes. This system is most complex and requires a certain dexterity during installation, but as convenient as possible, provides reliable thermal insulation and carries out clean air not from the inside, but from the outside of the room.
In addition, all 3 types of chimneys are produced both in the whole and prefabricated version, which allows you to collect stainless steel chimneys with their own hands from several separate knees of small lengths and a variety of different shapes in each other.
Installation of a chimney from a steel pipe with your own hands
Regardless of the choice of a particular type of steel pipes, independent installation of the entire structure will require mandatory compliance with a number of conditions. The basic requirements for the assembly will be as follows:
The pipe knees are collected sequentially from the bottom up, tightly investing one in the other;
All joints and cracks are thoroughly covered with refractory sealant, designed for temperatures of at least 1000 ° C;
if necessary, the outer surface of the chimney is covered with a layer of thermal insulation;
In the case of a pipe output through a roof performed or containing combustible and/or flammable materials, a steel chimney is supplied with a spark.
All these actions with an independent assembly of the chimney are quite simple and require only attentiveness – since the main difficulties are mainly associated with the organization of pipes output through the side walls or ceilings.
