Technical characteristics of paints

  • January 16, 2019

Paints used in finishing work are characterized by a number of most important parameters: hiding, drying speed, light resistance, spreading, etc.

Covering is recognized as one of the most important characteristics of any type of paint. This indicator is primarily responsible for the quality of surface coloring and material consumption. The paint with a low shelter has to be applied in several layers to completely paint over the color of the base. High -quality paint with a high shelter indicator will not require applying more than two layers to the surface, while the paint with a low indicator will need to be applied to the surface from five to eight layers. This characteristic depends on the properties of the coloring pigment, on the basis of which paint was created.

The covert parameter, as a rule, is indicated by the manufacturer at a bank with paint, so that it can easily calculate its future consumption based on the surface area on which it will be applied. Consumption should be calculated taking into account how many layers of paint will be applied to the surface. In one layer, completely paint over the surface, very different from the shade of the paint itself, it will not work.

Looking – this is an indicator of paint, which is determined by the ability of the coloring substance to reflect the light. “Shiny” paint poorly hide the defects of the surface (cracks, irregularities, roughness), and in some cases they make them even more noticeable. It is advisable to use glossy paint on a relatively flat surface, in which case the surface will look original, easily washed, which gives such a paint of practicality and versatility. The degree of “gloss” is indicated on the packaging.

Light resistance of paint – its ability not to “fade” under the influence of ultraviolet rays. This characteristic is extremely important when staining facades and other surfaces that are constantly exposed to direct sunlight.

The speed of its drying after applying to the surface largely depends on the type of paint. The paints based on solvents dry the fastest. Water -based paints are also characterized by a high drying rate. In addition, such paints have no pungent smell. Oil paints completely dry out for only several days.

Accelete the process of drying of paint can accelerate special plasticizers and sequcathives.
