How to make a table for a child with your own hands

  • October 10, 2018

If your baby has already begun to show interest in drawing, modeling, folding the designer and other developing classes, it means it is time to take care of the organization of his workplace. The easiest option is a table and a chair. A set of furniture for the smallest can be bought, or you can do it yourself. The latter option is preferable, since you will be sure of the environmental friendliness of all the materials used, the strength of the table and its safety for the child.

For the manufacture of a table from the dad you will require elementary skills to work with a tree, a sheet of chipboard or a dense plywood for a countertop, wooden bars for legs and edges, wood screws 3×40 mm and 3×70 mm. Acrylic paint, varnish, stickers are suitable for decoration. What should be a table for a child?

Requirements for the table

Firstly, it should be light, but stable. Secondly, in height correspond to the growth of the child, which is very important for the correct formation of posture and the convenience of the baby. Thirdly, no sharp corners and protruding hats of screws! You can determine the optimal height of the table like this: put the child on a chair, measure the distance from the floor to the level of a bent elbow, add another 5 centimeters. Given the active growth of a little fidget, it is best to design a “growing” table with the ability to regulate the height. In the countertop, you can make a hole for a glass of water or pencils, under the lid, provide a drawer for storing materials.

Manufacturing technology

How to make a table for a child? Put the countertop on the floor, attach fasteners around the perimeter with an indent of 3-5 centimeters with screws. Turn out the edging, all connections should be smoothly polished. Insert the legs of the table into the resulting corners and fix them with screws 3x70mm. You can glue rubber or felt pads on the legs so that the table does not slip and the floor covering does not scratch. Make sure that the resulting table is stable and safe for the baby. The final stage – decoration. The legs of the table, the edging and the lower part of the countertop can be varnished.

But the table cover should be arranged in an original way: painted with acrylic paints or gouache (for varnish coating), decorated with vinyl stickers with the heroes of your favorite cartoons, alphabet or numbers.
