The need to close the cracks between the wall and the bathroom, as a rule, collide after the work on the replacement of the tile or the bath itself. The gap can reach from 1-2 millimeters to several centimeters.
Depending on the size of the gap, you can solve the designated problem in one way or another. This article presents five ways to eliminate the gap between the wall and the bathroom.
Method number 1. Grout
If the gap reaches only a few millimeters (no more than 5), then for its location you can use grout. You can purchase a white grout or use the one that the inter -seams were processed. The advantage of this method is the stability of the grout to the penetration of moisture and the preservation of color for a long period of time. To strengthen this grout effect, it is possible by processing it with a means of protection against dirt and rust (fugue-shusk). Grout is applied with a rubber spatula.
Method number 2. Plastic corner
If the gap is within 10 mm, then you can use a plastic corner for waterproofing the joint. The plastic border is an angular profile made of PVC. Plastic corners are internal – glued to the wall before lining with tiles, or external ones – are installed directly on the tile.
The plastic corner is measured in size of the bath, its ends are cut at an angle of 450. The gap between the wall and the bathroom is filled with silicone, and then covered with a corner. It is very important to put a sufficient amount of silicone. When pressed on a plastic corner, silicone should get out both from the side of the walls and from the bath. Excess silicone is removed using wet cotton fabric. The advantage of this method is not only the tightness of the seam, but also an aesthetic look.
Method number 3. Border tape
The use of a self -adhesive border tape is advisable for a gap of 10 to 30 mm. The basis of the tape consists of special plastic, and an adhesive element is a sealant. The method of using a self -adhesive border is quite simple. Before starting work, you should clean and dry the bath, as well as the walls at the junction. Free the border tape from protective material, warm it with a hairdryer and glue the curb at the junction between the bathroom and the walls. Squeeze and smooth well.
However, this method has one significant drawback, during operation, the tightness of the joint decreases, in connection with which the border tape should be periodically changed.
Method No. 4. Sealant
The main advantage of this method is its practicality and reliability. Silicone sealant is an elastic mass, it has remarkable moisture resistant properties and reliably protect the gap from the ingress of water.
It is practically suitable for eliminating gaps of any size. To apply sealant, it is advisable to use a special mounting gun. Before filling the gap, the adjacence between the wall and the bathroom should be degreased, for these purposes you can use any solvent. To obtain an uniform coating width several millimeters higher from the joint, molar tape should be glued to the walls and edges of the bath.
Excess sealants formed during its application are removed using a rubber spatula. After filling the gap with sealant, molar tape can be removed. After 15 minutes, for the final leveling of the seam, a brush moistened in soapy solution is carried out on the surface of the sealant. It is important to perform this operation in one direction.
Method number 5. Tile
To implement this method of embarrassing the gap between the wall and the bathroom, it is necessary to cut the tile into pieces of the desired size, or to purchase ready -made ceramic borders. Ceramic border is attached with tile glue. The principle of laying is the same as the wall cladding with tiles.
