Metal tape is one of the fairly common roofing materials, which is in constant demand of customers, especially private developers. The material is relatively inexpensive, while very practical – it is more durable than natural tiles, and its aesthetic qualities are not inferior to it. But what is it like and how to choose what is suitable for use in specific conditions?
First, we will deal with the very structure of this product. In the center is a steel sheet, which on both sides is covered with zinc, which provides anti -corrosion protection.
A passivating layer is applied to zinc, which is then covered with a primer. At the end, a polymer coating is applied from the outside, and from the inner – just a layer of protective varnish or paint. And here the question arises – the coating can be different and the protective properties of it are also different.
Polyester. The budget version of the coating, which, nevertheless, provides a high level of protection against climatic influences – changes in temperature, rain, snow and wind.
We have good color resistance
It has good color resistance. The only drawback is low mechanical strength. You need to handle such a metal tile carefully so as not to damage the coating during unloading and installation. The usual polyester is glossy, so it gives sunny glare, but there is a matte performance in which metal dust is added to the polyester.
Pural. This coating is made of polyurethane modified with polyamide. Its resistance to the effects of environmental factors is even higher than that of polyester, while its mechanical strength is higher due to the thicker coating. True, at the same time, the price of it is more than one and a half times higher than for polyester, which, however, is compensated by great durability.
Matte execution of the coating
There is also a matte performance of this coating that does not give glare in the sun. Corrosion resistance and resistance to wear are at the same level as the usual option, here the choice depends only on the preferences of the aesthetic plan.
Plastic. It is made on the basis of polyvinyl chloride with plasticizers. This coating is the thickest, so it better tolerates random mechanical influences in the installation process.
Corrosion resistance is also high, but with temperature differences the situation is worse than that of Pural or polyester. The same applies to ultraviolet radiation, therefore, in conditions of hot climate and frequent exposure to direct sunlight, its use is unreasonable. At the cost of this option will be more expensive than polyester, but cheaper than a snowstorm.
